GUTO INDIO DA COSTA

In 1993, da Costa graduated from the Art Center College of Design, Switzerland, and remained in Europe for several years, gaining experience at prominent and important design offices in Germany, France and Denmark. Returning home to Brazil in 1997, da Costa has since developed critically acclaimed projects, recognised for their refined taste and bold application of design.

Da Costa was an essential member of the successful Projeto Rio Cidade, which focused efforts on neighbourhoods in Rio de Janeiro such as Leblon. The urban design of da Costa’s team simplified the approach to using public telephone booths, bus stops, traffic lights and signs. In addition to massive local approval and satisfaction, the project won the iF Product Design Award of 1998 and was a finalist nominee to the Mies van der Rohe Award for Latin America 2000; the project was also profiled by the Museum of Modern Art, New York.

The combination of awards honouring his work and the impressive catalogue of products conceived by da Costa and his team positions his studio among the most important creators of industrial products in Brazil.
