The call for applications for the World Design Capital designation is launched biennially and is open to all interested cities. The application form comprises a series of questions that seeks to determine the applicant's eligibility, financial commitment and capacity to execute a high-quality programme of events.

Only one application is accepted per city per cycle, which should clearly demonstrate support from local government. Applicants are welcome to reapply to each new application cycle.
