Born in Sydney, Australia, Marc Newson studied jewellery and sculpture at Sydney College of the Arts before moving to Tokyo in 1987 where he began to put his cutting-edge designs into production. He lived and worked in Paris from 1991 to 1997 before moving to London where he opened a large studio and founded Marc Newson Ltd.
Marc Newson’s designs are present in major permanent museum collections including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, London’s Design Museum, Musée national d’Art moderne - Centre Georges Pompidou and the Vitra Design Museum. In April 2005, Marc Newson was named as one of Time magazine’s Top 100 most influential people in the world. He currently holds a position as Adjunct Professor in Design at Sydney College of the Arts and the Creative Director of Qantas Airways, for whom he has designed A380 interiors and airport lounges. In 2006 he was appointed a Royal Designer for Industry by the Royal Society of Arts in the United Kingdom.
