Torino, the WDC pilot city, may have one day felt overshadowed by a multitude of larger and more well-know European design centres. But in recent years, Torino has experienced a remarkable metamorphosis from an industrial, one-company town into a vibrant cosmopolitan city, host of the XX Winter Olympics, seat for the aeronautical industry and one of the world’s hubs for fine foods and drink. With world-class architecture, a vibrant economy, the trademark Italian joie de vivre and a palpable cultural effervescence, Torino is deserving of the spotlight.
